In this article (7 sections)
Landing at King Abdulaziz International Airport (JED) for Umrah or Hajj, most pilgrims have one question: how long until I reach the Haram? The short answer is about 1 to 1.5 hours by road for the 85 to 95 km between the airport and Makkah, and a little longer in Ramadan and the Hajj season.
This guide covers the drive, what changes the travel time, what a taxi costs, and exactly how your pickup works from the moment you land.
How far is Jeddah Airport from Makkah?
The airport sits on the north side of Jeddah. From the terminals to the hotels around Masjid al-Haram it is roughly 85 to 95 km, most of it on the Jeddah–Makkah expressway. The exact distance depends on your terminal and where your hotel is.
| When you travel | Typical drive |
|---|---|
| Late night or early morning | About 1 hour |
| Normal daytime traffic | 1 to 1.5 hours |
| Ramadan and the Hajj season | 1.5 to 2 hours, sometimes more |
What affects your travel time
- Your arrival time. Late-night and early-morning arrivals usually meet lighter traffic on the expressway.
- The season. Ramadan and the Hajj season bring far more traffic on the Jeddah–Makkah road.
- Where you are staying. The streets around the Haram get busy at prayer times, which can add a few minutes at the end of the drive.
- Your group and luggage. Loading a van for a large family takes a little longer than a sedan for two.

How your airport pickup works

- Get your booking receipt. We send you a booking receipt with your driver's details, and your driver receives the same receipt, so you both have the same information before the day.
- Share your live location. Your driver already has your booking details. Once you have your bags, share your live location on WhatsApp and your driver will be there before you.
- Ride straight to your hotel. Your driver helps load your luggage and takes you directly to your hotel in Makkah.
We don't track flights automatically, so if your arrival time changes, send us a quick WhatsApp message and we will update your pickup.
